Oh no! There's no site. That's what we call a dead or broken link. So as the webmaster make sure your links actually lead somewhere, please.
Here's is another thing that irks me:
To see my absolutely favorite site in the whole world wide web click right over here.
That is really bad style my friends. Firstly, 'here' means nothing and secondly, the reader has to click at the end of the line - UGLY!! Please, please, please, make your links look like this instead.
See my absolutely favorite site in the whole world wide web.
Allowing Downloads
Undoubtedly, you have downloaded things off the Internet (ahem) legally. You click on the link and then a beautiful box pops up and asks you to open the file or save it. It's actually easier than it seems.
Basically you upload the file you want others to download onto your webspace and then simply link the file like you would a page.
Note: The browser may open the file if its extension is one that the browser can open, instead of initiating a download. So to bullet proof this measure place your file in a zipped folder (*.zip) which will always work. If you have Windows XP then you simply select the file, right click and select Send to > compressed (zipped) folder.
The Code
So since your linking to the document it would look like this
<A HREF = "name.zip">Link Text</A>
